Dress to impress
WHY IS DRESS CODE IMPORTANT?
Setting a dress code in the workplace accomplishes several things; it establishes an atmosphere of professionalism and uniformity, eliminates the potential for inappropriate clothing being worn by employees, and allows employees to easily meet expectations.
First impressions are lasting images in most people's minds, and competitive markets do not permit us to be lax about how customers perceive our business. Whether we are talking about uniforms, or simply uniform dressing codes, customers appreciate being tended to by professional looking sales personnel.
DRESS CODE FOR OFFICES
Business-suit and tie for men, no exceptions
Women have a bit more leeway and can wear skirts as well as nice blouses with pressed trousers, but clothing should be tailored and well-fitting
Closed-toed shoes are a must, as are pantyhose
Avoid too much flashy color, such as an all-neon suit. However, a splash of color in a tie or scarf is appropriate
Styles should be classic, with nothing too trendy or obtrusive. For instance, a purple velvet suit is still a suit, but much more appropriate for a televangelist than an investment banker
Accessories such as jewelry must be simple and traditional. Piercings anywhere besides earrings for women (one in each ear) must be removed. Tattoos must not be visible
Hair should be clean-cut and carefully styled. If facial hair is worn, it should be groomed often and already exist during the work-week (no growing a beard on a Thursday)
Many companies encourage women to wear subtle make-up, however, theycannot legally force you to do so. If you do choose to wear make-up, choose subtle colors and avoid sparkles or flash
Shoes should be heels for women, or dressy flats, and men should wear nice polished shoes
PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN WHILE DRESSING UP FOR OFFICE
Safety first! Don't wear anything to the office that could trip you up. Wear shoes with heel styles that you can walk in without looking as though you're doing a balancing act. Consider that you'll be spending eight or more hours in your work shoes, so you don't want to be in agony the entire day.Survey your environment, especially if you're new on the job.
Observe what the most successful employees are wearing.
Being known as a team player is very important in most businesses, so fitting in with others on the team is crucial.
Wearing the same type of clothing is one way of letting them know that you're on the team.
Rather than trying to make a fashion statement, keep the emphasis on the tasks at hand.
You want to be known for your great work, not for your body. So no matter whether you're working in a very casual or very formal office, go to work covered.
Below-the-knee skirts, no visible cleavage, covered arms, stockings, and even covered toes are appropriate for ultra-conservative offices.
A suit or a dress with a jacket is a good choice to wear in a formal office.
Accessorize with jewelry and a good handbag, but save the sparkle for evenings out. You don'tSurvey your environment, especially if you're new on the job.

You should also avoid certain items. Take off your sunglasses when you are indoors and at night.
If you wear a hat, make sure it is appropriate for the weather and occasion.
When you meet with a client you are allowed to be "business casual" if the circumstances call for it, but you should always be dressed either the same, or better than the client.
If your client is wearing a suit, and you will look totally out of place if you are not in a suit, too, then by all means, wear a suit. Don't forget nice clean shoes and a conservative tie.
Always be well groomed. Make sure you shower, clip your fingernails, comb or brush your hair, and brush your teeth.
Non-traditional piercings, such as nose or tongue, should be removed. Tattoos should be covered.
COLOR COMBINATIONS
Color plays an important part in professional image. Traditional career colors include red (aggressive), navy (trustworthy), gray (conservative) and black (chic). Most of these colors work well in pantsuits, skirts and shoesand mix back with softer feminine colors that are appropriate like ice blue, lilac, soft pink and ivory. Loud colors like hot pink and wild prints are much riskier in the office, but some creative types can still pull them off.

DRESS FOR DIFFERENT OCCASIONS
There will be many meetings taking place in College and the different engagements may require DIFFERENT attire!
Business casual
Casual
Formal
Business attire
Semi-formal
Casual
Appropriate for wear or use on informal occasions; not dressy: casual clothes; casual wear. Jeans, t-shirts.
Formal
Designed for wear or use at occasions or events marked by elaborate ceremony or prescribed social observance: The formal attire includes tuxedos and full-length gowns.
Semi-formal
For women, semi-formal attire is somewhat flexible. Women can wear a dress, pant suit or dress suit. Preferred fabrics for semi-formal attire for women include silk, velvet, rayon, cashmere, high quality polyester brocades, or velour. Usually, anything silky goes. Except for cashmere, a wool business suit is not considered semi-formal attire since it is not dressy enough.
Hem lengths in semi-formal attire dresses vary. Dresses can be cocktail dresses, no more than an inch above the knee, or they can extend to the ankle. Dress suits, for example, a silk suit, usually has a hem length slightly above, at or below the knee. Pants suits, again in silk, polyester, or cashmere, tend to be worn at the ankle. One can also wear dressy tops and tuxedo pants made out of appropriate fabrics and still fit into the semi-formal attire group. For men, semi-formal attire means wearing a full suit, with vest optional. A tie, either bow or straight, should be worn, and the shirt should be a simple button down. Suit fabric choices are primarily wool gabardine or cashmere. However, a wool blend will do. Linen or seersucker suits are not formal enough for semi-formal attire. Dress shoes like oxfords are worn. It is not necessary to wear a tuxedo, and one might be considered a bit overdressed for a semi-formal event showing up in a tux.
Traditional or Formal Business Attire
Traditional business attire includes business suits, dress shirts, and ties for men. It includes business-oriented suits for women, both skirted suits and tailored pantsuits. Leather shoes (closed-toe/closed heel), socks and/or hosiery are also a requirement for any outfit to qualify for traditional business attire.llavali
Business formal is a subset of traditional business attire, yet, it has specific requirements just one step down from tuxedos, such as dark tailored suits for men and women. Business formal standards dictate that women wear skirted suits, hosiery, and closed-toe/closed heel pumps. Men should wear white shirts (French cuff styles), cuff links, silk ties, and pocket squares (silk or linen) to fully qualify for business formal attire. If you receive an invitation requesting business formal attire, dress in this standard. This level of dress is often requested for Award dinners, political events, and a variety of dressy evening business occasions that are not black-tie.
General Business Attire
The General Business attire category is a mere mini step away from the Traditional Business classification. For men, this category still demands a tie and it's still worn with a dress shirt. However instead of a suit, this category includes a tailored sport coat worn with dress trousers.
For women, this category can look numerous ways. It includes tailored pantsuits, businesslike dresses, and coordinated dressy separates. When wearing separates, tailored jackets are required.
Business Casual
While ties are usually not required for men, high-level business casual includes suits worn with dressy sport shirts or fine-gauge knits and tailored separates, such as dress trousers, dressy collared sport shirts that do not require a tie, fine knit shirts and sweaters, as well as sport coats. Low-level business casual includes khakis, chinos, and knit golf shirts. To command respect, wear all-leather belts and shoes; sandals and sneakers do not meet a true business casual standard.
For women, business casual includes pantsuits, tailored separates, such as skirts, slacks, blouses, sweaters, sweater sets, and jackets. A complete accessorized look is encouraged, including closed-toe/closed heel shoes or slingbacks to maximize the businesslike aspect.
HOW TO KNOT A TIE
The four-in-hand is the all-time classic of tie knots. It is by far the most used, because it is simple to tie. It works well for most types of tie and with nearly all types of shirt collar. It is perfect for men of medium height and for tall men.
The steps:
Step1: Just below the collar, lay the wide end over the narrow end.
Step 2: Take the wide end behind the narrow end.
Step 3: Bring the wide end across the layover.
Step 4: Holding a finger in the loop, bring the wide end up, then down through the loop.
Step 5: Holding the narrow end, pull the knot gently up to the top shirt button.
When the knot is finished, the narrow end must be concealed and the wide end should be level with your belt.
